An illustration showing the two stages of photosynthesis:

1. Light-dependent: Reactions taking place in Thylakoid with water and light to produce nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate from nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate plus and adenosine triphosphate from adenosine diphosphate.
2. Light-independent: Reactions in stroma with carbon dioxide with help of adenosine triphosphate and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate resulting in release of sugar nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate plus and adenosine diphosphate.
