In the illustration showing DNA Replication, the double helix of DNA, which is made up of nitrogenous bases, unwinds with each strand replicating in one direction with DNA polymerase attaching to the unwound strand to form a new DNA strand. The junction of the new and old strands is called the replication fork. The color coding for the strands are:
