The illustration depicts the process of transformation of plant cells. The gene to be transferred is inserted in a plasmid to form a recombinant plasmid. The plasmid is introduced into Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Transformed bacteria introduce plasmids into plant cells. Inside a plant cell, Agrobacterium inserts part of its DNA into the host cell chromosome, along with the transferred gene. A complete plant is generated from the transformed cell.
