The movement of food into the stomach through esophagus is explained using three pictures. Picture 1 shows a yellow, oval shaped bolus in the esophagus and the stomach. The contraction of muscles above and below the bolus is also shown. Picture 2 shows that the bolus has been pushed further down the esophagus due to peristalsis. Picture 3 shows the bolus has been pushed into the stomach due to peristalsis.
