The diagram shows that the Earth is surrounded by the atmosphere and also the interior of the Earth. The Earth is made up of three layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core. A cut out portion of the Earth shows the interior layers. These are as follows:

1. The outermost layer is the crust, it has a thickness of 5 to 75 km.
2. The middle layer is the mantle, it has a thickness of 2850 km.
3. The innermost layer is the core. This is divided into inner core and outer core. The outer core has a thickness of 2260 km and the inner core has a thickness of 1220 km.
