The diagram shows the different stages of the rock cycle and shows how changes within the Earth can cause rocks to change form over a period of time.
One example of this featured in the diagram is as follows:
- A newly formed Igneous rock can experience weather and erosion which would change it into a sediment.
- It then experiences compacting and cementation which causes it to change into a sedimentary rock, or a conglomerate.
- If heat and pressure of the earth is applied it can then change into a metamorphic rock similar to a gneiss.
- If more heat is applied it would cause melting and turn it into magma.
