See Problem 4.

  1. If m angle  what are m angle  and m angle

Two angles share vertex B: ABC measuring (8x minus 3) degrees and DBC measuring (5x + 4) degrees.

  2. angle  is a straight angle. What are m angle  and m angle

Two angles share vertex Q: RQS measuring (2x + 4) degrees and TQS measuring (6x + 20) degrees.

B Apply

Use a protractor. Measure and classify each angle.

  1. An angle has a ray extending right and another extending up to the right, closer to vertex.
  2. An angle has a ray extending up to the left and another extending up to the right, just smaller than a right angle.
  3. An angle has a ray extending up to the left and another extending down to the right, about midway between a straight angle and right angle.
  4. An angle has a ray extending horizontally to the right and another extending up to the right, just smaller than a right angle.
  5. Think About a Plan A pair of earrings has blue wedges that are all the same size. One earring has a 25 degrees  yellow wedge. The other has a 14 degrees  yellow wedge. Find the angle measure of a blue wedge.

Two earrings each have a yellow wedge and blue wedges. The one with a 25 degrees yellow wedge has three equal blue wedges. The one with a 14 degrees yellow wedge has four equal blue wedges.

    • How do the angle measures of the earrings relate?
    • How can you use algebra to solve the problem?

Algebra Use the diagram below for Exercises 29 and 30. Solve for x. Find the angle measures to check your work.

Angles share vertex O, with rays OA, OB, OC, and OD, from left to right. Angles AOB and COD are each marked with one arc.

  1. m angle
  2. m angle
  3. If m angle  which expression can you use to find m angle

A four-sided shape with corners M, Q, P, and N, from bottom left clockwise, has rays extending from each corner to point V in the center of the shape.

    1. m angle
    2. 90 minus m angle
    3. m angle
    4. 90 plus , m angle
  4. Literature According to legend, King Arthur and his knights sat around the Round Table to discuss matters of the kingdom. The photo shows a round table on display at Winchester Castle, in England. From the center of the table, each section has the same degree measure. If King Arthur occupied two of these sections, what is the total degree measure of his section?

A round table is divided into 26 equal wedges, with King Arthur occupying two of them.

C Challenge

Time Find the angle measure of the hands of a clock at each time.

  1. 6:00
  2. 7:00
  3. 11:00
  4. 4:40
  5. 5:20
  6. 2:15
  7. Open-Ended Sketch a right angle with vertex V. Name it angle 1 .  Then sketch a 135 degrees  angle that shares a side with angle 1 .  Name it angle  Is there more than one way to sketch angle  If so, sketch all the different possibilities. (Hint: Two angles are the same if you can rotate or flip one to match the other.)
