A Practice

See Problems 1 and 2.

Algebra Find the value of each variable.

  1. A circle has angle of x degrees outside, with one side tangent and one side secant, with closer arc 68 degrees and farther arc 160 degrees.
  2. A circle has angle of x degrees outside with sides secant, the closer arc 30 degrees and farther arc 130 degrees.
  3. A circle has an angle of 50 degrees outside with one side tangent and one side secant, with closer arc x degrees and farther arc 160 degrees. A line is tangent at the secant line, at acute angle y degrees.
  4. A circle has an angle of x degrees with sides tangent, and closer arc 120 degrees.
  5. A circle has angle of 53 degrees outside with sides secant and closer arc y degrees. From the end of each side, a common diameter line and intersecting chords form angles with arcs of 60 degrees and 70 degrees, respectively, and a triangle with angle x degrees at the intersection.
  6. A circle has five inscribed angles forming a pentagon, with the five arcs congruent, one measuring x degrees. A line tangent at one vertex forms an angle of y degrees with one side.
  7. Photography You focus your camera on a circular fountain. Your camera is at the vertex of the angle formed by tangents to the fountain. You estimate that this angle is 40 degrees .  What is the measure of the arc of the circular basin of the fountain that will be in the photograph?

A fountain consists of two disk shapes, the bottom larger than the top.
