Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises

A Practice

See Problem 1.

The blue figure is a dilation image of the black figure. The labeled point is the center of dilation. Tell whether the dilation is an enlargement or a reduction. Then find the scale factor of the dilation.

  1. A black right triangle with bottom leg shares right angle A with a blue triangle with bottom leg measuring 6.
  2. A black square with center C and sides measuring 3 is surrounded by a blue square with sides measuring 9.
  3. A black rectangle with right side measuring 4 shares bottom right vertex R with a blue triangle with its right side measuring 2 units longer than the right side of the black rectangle.
  4. A black square with sides six units long shares bottom right vertex K with a blue square of sides two units long.
  5. A black backwards L-shaped figure has left side measuring three units, right side six units, and bottom side measuring six units with center L.. A blue backwards L-shaped figure has left side one unit, right side two units, and bottom side two units centered at L.
  6. Two trapezoids are up to the left of point M.

  7. A graph has a black square with vertices (2, 8), (6, 8), (6, 4), and (2, 4) and blue square with vertices (1, 4), (3, 4), (3, 2), and (1, 2).
  8. A graph has a black quadrilateral with vertices (negative 1, 2), (1, 1), (1, negative 1), and (0, negative 2) and a blue quadrilateral with vertices (negative 2, 4), (2, 2), (2, negative 2), and (0, negative 4).
  9. A graph has a black kite with vertices (0, 0), (negative 2, 0), (negative 4, 4), and (0, 2) and a blue kite with vertices (0, 0), (negative 3, 0), (negative 6, 6), and (0, 3).
