Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises

A Practice

See Problem 1.

List the pairs of congruent angles and the extended proportion that relates the corresponding sides for the similar polygons.

  1. r s t v tilde operator d e f g Quadrilateral RSTV is similar to quadrilateral DEFG.
  2. white up pointing triangle c eh b , tilde operator , white up pointing triangle w v t Triangle ABC is congruent to similar WVT.
  3. k l m n p tilde operator h g f d c Pentagon KLMNP is similar to pentagon HGFDC.

See Problem 2.

Determine whether the polygons are similar. If so, write a similarity statement and give the scale factor. If not, explain.

  1. Triangle ABC has all three angles congruent and all sides measuring 9. Triangle DEF has all three angles congruent to the angles in ABC, with all sides measuring 15.
  2. Quadrilaterals ABCD and DEFG share vertex D, with angles A, D, D, and F congruent and angles B, C, E, and G congruent. Quadrilateral ABCD has all sides measuring 4 and quadrilateral DEFG has all sides measuring 6.
  3. Triangles JKL and PQR have congruent angles J and P, K and Q, and L and R. Side JK measures 16 and side PQ measures 8. Side KL measures 34 and side QR measures 17. Side JL measures 30 and side PR measures 15.
