Practice and Problem-Solving Exercises

A Practice

See Problem 1.

Find the area of each circle. Leave your answer in terms of pi .

  1. A circle has diameter 6 meters.
  2. A circle has diameter 11 centimeters.
  3. A circle has diameter 1.7 feet.
  4. A circle has diameter 2 over 3 inches.
  5. Agriculture Some farmers use a circular irrigation method. An irrigation arm acts as the radius of an irrigation circle. How much land is covered with an irrigation arm of 300 ft?
  6. You use an online store locator to search for a store within a 5-mi radius of your home. What is the area of your search region?

See Problem 2.

Find the area of each shaded sector of a circle. Leave your answer in terms of pi .

  1. A circle has two radii measuring 18 yards, arc 45 degrees, and the region between shaded.
  2. A circle has two perpendicular radii measuring 16 centimeters with the region between shaded.
  3. A circle has diameter line 26 meters with a radius line forming a shaded region with the left side of the diameter and a 120 degree angle with the right side of the diameter.
  4. A circle has two radii measuring 12 inches 30 degrees apart with the region between them shaded.
  5. A circle has two perpendicular radii measuring 4 feet with the large region between them shaded.
  6. A circle with diameter line measuring 16 centimeters has a radius line extending down to the right 45 degrees from the right side of the diameter. The other large region between the radius line and the right side of the diameter is shaded.
