You can rotate a triangle about the midpoint of a side to form a parallelogram.

A triangle has bottom base b and height h meeting side b at a right angle.

A triangle, with bottom base b and height h, is rotated about midpoint M on the right side, forming a parallelogram with base b and height h.

The area of the triangle is half the area of the parallelogram.
