Image Long Description

All of the numbers in the Solve It are powers of 10. In this lesson, you will learn a method for multiplying powers that have the same base.

Essential Understanding You can use a property of exponents to multiply powers with the same base.

You can write a product of powers with the same base, such as 3 to the fourth , middle dot , 3 squared , comma  using one exponent.

3 to the fourth , middle dot , 3 squared , equals open 3 middle dot 3 middle dot 3 middle dot 3 close middle dot open 3 middle dot 3 close equals , 3 to the sixth

Notice that the sum of the exponents in the expression 3 to the fourth , middle dot , 3 squared  equals the exponent of 3 to the sixth , .
