Multiplying and Dividing Fractions

To multiply two or more fractions, multiply the numerators, multiply the denominators, and simplify the product, if necessary.

To multiply mixed numbers, change the mixed numbers to improper fractions and multiply the fractions. Write the product as a mixed number.

To divide fractions, change the division problem to a multiplication problem. Remember that 8 ÷ 1 4 8 divides , 1 fourth  is the same as 8 · 4 . 8 middle dot 4 .  To divide mixed numbers, change the mixed numbers to improper fractions and divide the fractions.
