Perimeter, Area, and Volume

The perimeter of a figure is the distance around the figure. The area of a figure is the number of square units contained in the figure. The volume of a three-dimensional figure is the number of cubic units contained in the figure.

Exercises

For Exercises 1–2, find the perimeter of each figure. For Exercises 3–4, find the area of each figure. For Exercises 5–7, find the volume of each figure.

  1. A 4-sided polygon has sides that measure 8 centimeters, 5 centimeters, 3 centimeters, and 6 centimeters.
  2. An 8-sided polygon started life as a rectangle. A smaller rectangle was removed from the upper left and upper corners.

  3. A right triangle has sides that measure 6 centimeters, 8 centimeters, and 10 centimeters.
  4. A parallelogram has a base that measures 7 inches and a height of 8 inches.
  5. A cube has edges that measure 6 centimeters.
  6. A rectangular prism has a length of 6 inches, a width of 4 inches, and a height of 2 inches.
  7. A right circular cylinder has a radius of 4 centimeters and a height of 7 centimeters.
