A solve it problem with Max.
Image Long Description

Like radicals are radical expressions that have the same index and radicand.

Essential Understanding You can combine like radicals using properties of real numbers.

Here is how you can combine like radicals using the Distributive Property.

Like Radicals With Numbers Like Radicals With Variables
square root of 2 plus 3 square root of 2 equals 4 square root of 2 square root of 5 x y end root , plus 8 , square root of 5 x y end root , equals 9 , square root of 5 x y end root
cube root of 7 , , minus 5 , cube root of 7 , , equals negative 4 , cube root of 7 , cube root of 9 , x squared , y end root , . minus 8 . cube root of 9 , x squared , y end root , . equals negative 7 . cube root of 9 , x squared , y end root ,

Combining radical expressions is different from adding them. The sum of any two real numbers is a real number, so you can add square root of 2  and square root of 3  to get the real number square root of 2 plus square root of 3 .

However, you cannot combine the result into a single radical, so square root of 2 plus square root of 3 not equal to square root of 5 .
