How Do Scientists Use Their Observations?
Procedure
Observe the liquid that your teacher gives you. Record your observations. CAUTION Do not touch or drink the liquid.
Use scissors and a metric ruler to cut a 5-cm square of aluminum foil. Loosely crumple the foil and drop it into the liquid.
Use a stirring rod to push the foil below the surface of the liquid. Observe and record any changes that occur in the liquid and foil.
Think About It
Posing Questions Write three questions about the materials or the changes that you observed.
Designing Experiments What couldyou do with the same or other materials to discover an answer to one of your questions?
Communicating Results Share your proposed experiments with your classmates. What results would you expect to observe?
