Digital Camera
When light enters an analog camera, it strikes a strip of light-sensitive film behind the lens. In a digital camera, the pattern of light is sensed electronically and turned into digital code.
Interpreting Diagrams What controls the sharpness of a digital image?
Miniature digital camera
Digital cameras can be much smaller than traditional cameras because high resolution CCDs do not need to use large lenses.
How the CCD works
In a CCD, a lens focuses light onto a photosite, which converts the light intensity into an electric current. To create a full color image, the CCD contains a color filter. The filter separates incoming light into one of the three primary colors at each photosite. The microprocessor creates a color image by evaluating the color data for groups of photosites.
