Measuring Earthquakes
Modern seismometers have been placed all around the world. Some are permanently installed hundreds of feet below ground to avoid noise. Others can be temporarily placed anywhere on land. Many seismometers transmit seismograms via satellite, allowing geologists to analyze earthquakes as they are occurring.
